Water treatment for chemical processes and regimes

Water treatment for chemical processes and regimes

The main problems of water-chemical regimes that occur at almost all TPPs in various combinations are

  • corrosion of the boiler surface and steam lines leads to skidding on the turbine blades, which reduces generation and leads to premature equipment failure;
  • overgrowth of heat exchange surfaces with hardness salts, which leads to increased energy consumption and fuel overruns;
  • foaming in the boiler drum and removal of salts with foam into the steam pipeline, which leads to wear of the turbine blades and clogging of pipeline fittings.

For these reasons, all stages of water treatment, from water desalination to the introduction of chemicals that correct the pH in steam and boiler, are crucial to ensure the reliability of the system.

Planning and Setup Nuances for Water Treatment in Thermal Power Plants"

First of all, it is necessary to take into account the quality of the inlet water and what water treatment system is already in place. It is also necessary to take into account the requirements of equipment manufacturers for steam quality.

Today, such global turbine manufacturers as Siemens, MAN, and General Electric place very high demands on the quality of the steam going to the blades. This is in addition to standard indicators for hardness, pH, silicate content, etc.

Additionally, there is a requirement for a steam conductivity of 0.2 µS/sm after the H-cationic column. Therefore, in water treatment and chemical processing, there is a question of the presence of reagents that enter the steam line and raise the pH, preventing carbon dioxide corrosion, but do not affect the electrical conductivity of steam.
